Berlin, surrounded by the state of Brandenburg, is located on the banks of the Havel. With about 3.4 million inhabitants, Berlin is not only Germany’s capital, but also by far its largest city. Berlin has approximately 30 science and research institutions, including 4 universities. The cultural offering of the city is unique throughout Germany. Theatres, museums, exhibitions, concerts and the freelance artist scene form an unbeaten blend. The most important sights of the city can be found in the central part of the metropolis, “Berlin-Mitte” in the former eastern part, as well as in “Charlottenburg” in the western part of Berlin. Here, various historical buildings, such as the television tower at Alexanderplatz and the Red City Hall, the Berlin Cathedral, the Brandenburg Gate as well as the famous street “Unter den Linden” can be found. In the western part of the city, a visit to the government quarter, the Kurfürstendamm and the old and new memorial church is recommended. Furthermore, a visit to one of Berlin’s theaters should not be missed. To get from one location to the other is very easy in Berlin, since the public transport system is well developed. Furthermore, taxis can be found everywhere during the day, but also at night.
