Fairs and congresses in Detroit, United States

For a long time, Detroit has been the wealthiest and most prosperous US city. Today, the megacity, which once dominated the Middle West, has become much quieter. The population has decreased to around 700,000; its hinterland is still home to 4 million people. The structural change in the automotive sector heralded the economic downfall of the city at the end of the 20th century. However, the city is still worth visiting. The Detroit Auto Show, one of the largest automobile exhibitions in the world, attracts tens of thousands visitors every year. The decayed factories and abandoned warehouses are evocative of Berlin’s cityscape in the early 90s. Its location between Lake St. Clair and Lake Erie directly bordering Canada also makes for the perfect starting point for exploring the Canadian province of Ontario. Delta Airlines and Lufthansa offer direct flights to Detroit multiple times a week. The flight duration is approximately 9 hours.
