The capital of Ukraine is inhabited by roughly three million people. It has the byname “Mother of all Russian cities”, although it is not part of Russia anymore. Today, the metropolis on the banks of the River Dnepr is the economic, religious and cultural center of the city. Those who visit the city can enjoy various sights, secular buildings and churches. The cave monastery, Sophia’s cathedral and Uspenski cathedral belong to the UNESCO World Heritage. The cultural melting pot of Kiev is Andrew’s Descent. During the day, you can visit the sights and numerous museums of the city, in the evening an opera or operetta is recommended. The mayor of the city is Vitali Klitschko, who is well known in Germany. The city on the Dnepr is moreover famous for its economic power which has not changed much since the Kievan Rus’. The Ukrainian capital is also home of the country’s expo center and the ExpoPlaza. Here, a great number of exhibitions and trade fairs take place all year round.
