Fairs and congresses in Malmö, Sweden

Malmö is located in the southern part of Sweden. The city with 328,494 inhabitants (as of December 2016) is divided into the five administrative districts Innerstaden, Väster, Söder, Öster and Norr. After Sweden’s capital Stockholm and the port city Gothenburg, Malmö is the country’s third-largest city and main town of the same-named municipality. Together with the Danish capital Copenhagen, which is 28 kilometers away, the metropolitan area constitutes the Öresund region with high economic and social significance. In addition, the city is partly multicultural. Many people consider the city the door to the Swedish Kingdom. The excellent location on the Öresund, the medieval city center and numerous modern urban sights make it a great place for sightseeing. The city core is characterized by medieval structures, such as the city hall from 1564, the Gothic Saint Petri Kyrka and an equestrian statue of King Gustav X. The Malmö Castle and the surrounding landscape garden, the technical and maritime museums as well as the dockside Koggen Museum deliver insights into the region’s history. The district Västra Hamnen is an interesting example of modern city architecture because of the deconstructivist “Turning Torso”. The “Opera och Musikteater” is a renowned opera house. The entertainment center Slagthuset, Folkets Park, swimming pools and numerous restaurants offer various leisure time options. Every year in August, the Malmö Festival takes place. Concerning traffic, Malmö is connected via the Öresund road and railway bridge and has a well-developed public transport network. Further connections are the Kastrup and Malmö Airports. Moreover, the sea port with fixed connections to Rostock and Lübeck-Travemünde is of high significance.
