Fairs and congresses in Salzburg, Austria

With approximately 150,000 inhabitants, Salzburg is Austria’s fourth-largest city. It is not only a trade fair town, but also a university city; significant educational institutions are the Paris Lodron University and the world-famous conservatory “Mozarteum”. Salzburg is called “Festival City” due to the Salzburg Festival taking place in summer every year, and “Mozart City” since Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born here. One of the sightseeing highlights is the tour through his birthplace and residence. The city’s landmarks are the medieval Hohensalzburg Castle that can be reached by foot or funicular. Further attractions are the historic old town with the Getreidegasse, the impressive dome and the Mirabellgarten. A culinary specialty worth trying is the so-called sweet “Salzburger Nockerl”. The city borders Germany: Munich can be reached in one and a half hour by train, the ride to Vienna takes around two and a half hours. The airport W.A. Mozart, which lies on the city’s edge, is the second-largest national airport.
