Vilnius is the capital of the Baltic State of Lithuania. As such, it is not only home to more than half a million inhabitants, but is also the political, economic and scientific center. The city has multiple universities, such as Vilnius University and the European Humanistic University. Due to its high significance it has excellent transport connections, including the Vilnius International Airport. Furthermore, it can be reached by train and intercity bus from countries like Russia, Belarus, Poland, Latvia and Ukraine. The most interesting sights here are the old town, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage, and is impressive because of its baroque buildings and an unusually high number of churches. It is also a great place for shopping and getting to know traditional handicrafts. In addition, there is the Amber Museum in the old town.
