Baltimore is the traffic hub between Washington D.C. (about 60 km southwest) and Philadelphia (about 170 km northeast). The city region is home to approximately 800,000 people and the wider area has 2.5 million inhabitants. Large industrial companies (such as Procter & Gamble) are located here and the city is also a reputable university town (the private John Hopkins University with about 4,000 students; the state University of Maryland-Baltimore Co. with around 8,900 students). Baltimore is situated only 16 km away from the Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI), which is easily reachable by shuttles and taxis as well as light rail, Amtrak and limousine services.
